On the 25th of October, 18-year-old Rhys Blissett, a survivor & Witness of domestic violence, will take on a 300 km run from Christchurch to Timaru and back along State Highway 1. This run isn’t just about distance — it’s about turning pain into purpose, raising vital funds and awareness for women and children affected by domestic violence in Aotearoa.

From a young age, Rhys experienced the instability and fear that comes with growing up in a violent home — moving between schools, refuges, and foster care, and witnessing repeated harm against his family. At 15, he made the decision to change his life, pursuing study with the goal of one day becoming a police officer to help protect others from family harm.

While he waits to reach that goal, Rhys refuses to sit still. Through Run For Change NZ, he is using his passion for running to make a difference now. Every dollar raised from this 300 km ultra-run will go directly to Women’s Refuge NZ, who provide life-saving support and safe spaces for women and children in danger.

This run is a symbol of resilience, safety, and hope — proving that hardship can be transformed into something powerful. By supporting this event, you’re not only backing Rhys, but you’re also standing with thousands of families across New Zealand who deserve a future free from violence.
